Recorded messages to create a safer more secure WA
What is PC COPS?
PC COPS sends recorded voice messages simultaneously through the telephone system to a large number of homes or businesses to alert them to particular problems in the area.
In a matter of seconds, the system can target specific areas with important information of which they would otherwise be unaware.
For instance, it might be a crime alert warning residents of an offender committing burglaries in the area. Or it could be a community alert to ask residents to be on the look out for a missing child, or notifying them of a bushfire in their area.
PC COPS is currently in operation within the Perth metropolitan area. All telephone subscribers whose listings appear in the Telstra White Pages are automatically included in the PC COPS database.
Dial-in information service
Another recorded phone service aimed at reducing crime is our Dial-In Information Service.
By dialling (08) 9280 0133 you are welcomed to the service and prompted to enter your postcode or to press a number on your telephone keypad.
The range of topics covered come under three broad headings:
- Criminal activity in your suburb
- crime prevention information
- Local services information
crime activity in your suburb
The recorded service provides a weekly summary of police activity in your area. It details the number and types of crimes committed in your area and the sorts of premises being targeted. The service also gives advice on residential and personal security.
crime prevention information
This is all about a Safer W.A., which is a community-based, community driven crackdown on crime.
Being made aware of the simple steps you can take to prevent crime in your area is the essence of our recorded Dial-In crime Prevention Information Service. It includes information on Neighbourhood Watch, personal safety and crime prevention.
Local services information
Local services play a vital role in our community. While the vast majority of the public rarely requires their help, for those who do, it's often an emergency situation.
To help provide an even better service, you can now access recorded information updated periodically by local services in your area, including:
- State Emergency Service
- City/Shire Ranger Service
- Bush Fires Board
- Fire and Rescue Service
- St John Ambulance Service
New technology has enabled the WA Police Service to provide community policing services that are equal to the best in the world.
